AU COEUR DE... (bis), interactive video and sound installation, 2008

1 miniDV digital video, black&white, stereo sound, loop. Wall projection + ampli/speakers. Eyeweb programming. Edition 1 + 1EA.

    Interactivity developed with Pierre Brétéché.

AU COEUR DE... (bis) is a video and sound projection which shows the convulsive movement of two eyes with a regular mechanical sound. In the EHPAD Balay of Saint-Etienne, the installation separates the visual and sound data. The image is locked in a room in the entrance of the building, we only can see it from the airlock through a window. The sound can be heard everywhere in the ground floor, it spreads through the whole space. A detection system of forms and movements in real time establishes a relationship between the bodies present in the airlock with the image and the sound, any passage causing the immobilization of the first and the interruption of the second. At this exact moment, there is a double surveillance. One is revealed in these two fixed eyes. The other involves any person in the ground floor for who the silence indicates a physical presence in the airlock. In AU COEUR DE... (bis), the role of the spectator is thought according to the duality "be under surveillance" / "be the one who surveil" and in the idea of its continuous inversion according to its place in the exhibition space. In the fields of visible and sound, this work confronts two surveillance mechanisms relating to the observation and the electronic presence of the body, one proving to be an illusion, the other taking shape through silence.

  3. AU COEUR DE..., video and sound installation, 2008

    2 miniDV digital videos, black&white, stereo sound, loop. 1 wall projection + 1 projection on body. Enclosed space 3,60x3,00x1,80 m. Edition 1 + 1EA.

AU COEUR DE... creates a dialogue between two bodies, the spectator and the image, in a closed and narrow space, each having a defined place. Immersed in darkness, the spectator faces blind eyes at the same time as he becomes a projection surface. When these eyes are moving, a constant convulsion in a repetitive mechanical sound, just only a luminous rectangle is on its body. When the movement of eyes and its sound stop, a short and dry sound occurs and the image of a falling residue appears to the level of the spectator's sex.
