ILLUSIO VIRILE, installation, 2024
ILLUSIO VIRILE questions the masculine identity from the point of view of the universal injunction, for boys and then men, to « measure up ». This appears as a universal, timeless and protean duty, and is applied in a system of proofs and tests. ILLUSIO VIRILE is an installation that was conceived for the space of La Crèmerie (Plateau d'Assy, France) and part of which was produced there during an artist residency. The notion of the fall takes part as a possible detachment from norms. This is inherent in a process that experiments with the space and the time of the loss of balance, between a tensioning of the body and the performativity of gestures and postures. The installation ILLUSIO VIRILE connects Photography, Video, Sound and Volume in a relationship to measurement - measurement of the body, measurement of space, measurement of time - and in a play of mise en abyme of spaces, bodies and processes.
