TDO, performance, 18 september 2021
50 min. La Crèmerie / Villa Saint-Dominique, Plateau d'Assy, France.
The performance TDO questions the feminine identity from the point of view of its association to Fertility and Maternity. It considers the forms of transmission, over time, of social norms linking the Woman and the Mother, which are perpetuated by/in the patriarchal societies on one hand and, on the other, reintroduced by essentialist movements based on a return to Nature. The French expression « Tuer dans l'oeuf » is taken literally and is executed in several stages to oppose limited and regressive conceptions of feminine identity, in a play of reversal between Nature and Culture and by the relay of my act. This work is based on the writings of the French philosopher and feminist Elisabeth Badinter, from which the text of the performance was created, in seven parts.
« Seven eggs are placed on the floor and form a circle which defines the space of my performance. With a safety pin, I pierce an egg on two opposite sides. Then I blow inside in order to empty it of all its organic matter, keeping only its shell. I insert a part of my text into the egg, rolling the paper and slipping it inside. I close the two holes of the egg with candle wax. I write three keywords from the text on the floor. I give the egg to someone in the audience. I repeat these movements for each of the seven eggs. The whole text is thus dispersed in the audience, in seven people who have the choice to break the egg to know immediately its content or to take it away and to keep it ».
